More than twenty years ago, the members of the Institute of Organic Chemistry (OCI) decided to establish an annual symposium on natural products. It was called the Leibniz Symposium, long before the university changed its name to Leibniz University. The symposium was intended to cover all aspects of natural products, their biological background including biosynthesis, their profound role in society, and most importantly, the chemistry that is developed holistically around these topics. It was the starting point for the clear direction of the Institute, which is still visible today. The impact went beyond science, included master''s education, and eventually culminated in a newly established and truly interdisciplinary research center, the Center for Biomolecular Drug Research (BMWZ).
Since the symposium is free of charge, we hope to introduce the next generation of young scientists to the latest trends in the field of biomolecular drug discovery and natural products. The symposium complements the bachelor''s and master''s degree programs in Life Science and Chemistry at Leibniz Universität Hannover, coordinated by the Faculty of Natural Sciences. We are sure that all guests will benefit and be inspired by the interdisciplinary character of this event.
We thank the Leibniz Universität Hannover for supporting this symposium.
